Welcome Letter

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 14th International Conference of the IEES Series: “Closed Cycles and the Circular Society 2027: The Power of Ecological Engineering”, organized by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) in collaboration with the International Ecological Engineering Society (IEES). The conference will take place from 14 to 17 June 2027 in Barcelona, Spain.

IEES 2027 will once again serve as an inspiring international forum where researchers, practitioners, industry representatives, and policymakers can exchange ideas and discuss the latest advances, emerging trends, and future challenges in the field of ecological engineering.

Under the theme “Closed Cycles and the Circular Society: The Power of Ecological Engineering,” the conference will explore innovative approaches for designing resilient socio-ecological systems that minimize waste, optimize resource use, and foster circularity. The event will highlight the essential role of ecological engineering in addressing global environmental challenges through nature-based, regenerative, and systems-oriented solutions.

The scientific programme will showcase cutting-edge research, technological developments, and practical applications across a wide range of topics, including circular economy strategies, ecosystem restoration, resource recovery, water and wastewater management, sustainable food systems, renewable resources, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of ecological processes into engineered systems.

Bringing together an international community of experts and stakeholders, the conference aims to foster collaboration and accelerate the transition towards a circular society grounded in ecological principles and sustainable development.

We are delighted to welcome you to Barcelona for IEES 2027 for an inspiring and memorable conference experience that fosters learning and lasting partnerships.

With our warmest regards,
The Organizing Committee
